The shield-and-axe setup is heavier and more defensive. The collected preview reports that the developers recommend it for players new to this style of combat. That recommendation does not establish a numerical advantage or make it the best weapon for every player.

The demo training room allows weapons to be tested before starting a run. Enable the dummy’s attacks to compare dodging and counter timing alongside your weapon choice.
